WINNERS ALL - Tennis vs Bowls match

Posted by angela james on 27 July 2023

THE game of bowls ultimately won the day at the Cheam Fields Tennis vs Bowls match on Sunday, 23rd July. The revival of this former favourite annual fixture attracted 40 participants and everyone enjoyed a great afternoon out on the green.

Jan Healey, who chairs the Bowls Management Committee, says: “The emphasis was on fun and enjoyment, with several different types of bowling games to try, as well as the more traditional format.

“Once everyone got to grips with how to play, the fun started! After a few ends, competitiveness began to show with everyone determined to give it their best shot.

“It was a great atmosphere with players wearing Hawaiian shirts and silly hats and supporters heckling and cheering from the veranda. Everyone then stayed into the evening to enjoy the delicious, barbecued hotdogs.

And the winners?

“Congratulations to the winning tennis team – Tony Lamb, Richard Lloyd and Kath Sullivan. And to the winning bowling team – Jan Healey/Judy Dennis, Brian Bedwell and Brian Turner.

“Overall, the tennis team achieved a higher score (based on the handicapping system). But the real winner is Cheam Fields Club with so many players from both sports socialising together and meeting new friends.

“Thanks to everyone involved before, during and after the event. It was a successful and very enjoyable afternoon. Hopefully, the event will now become a regular again on the Club's calendar.”
