What a Jazz Night for a Moondance

On Saturday 22nd June the Cheam Fields Social Committee hosted a top-class Summer Jazz Night featuring Karl Charity and the Fanjazztic Quintet.
Review by Club Member, Tony Lamb:
"Another fantastic night of jazz at Cheam Fields enjoyed by members and their guests across the whole club. This year we were entertained by the Fanjazztic Quintet featuring the amazing vocals of Karl Charity.
Now I can’t be described as a jazz aficionado, but I do like my music. So to have the quality of musicians playing at our club rather than at Ronnie Scott’s, which is a more typical venue for them, was an amazing privilege and not something many clubs can claim.
Karl’s vocals are so slick and the band effortlessly weaved in and out to create a soundscape of jazz harmony. And they hadn’t even regularly played together before so it’s a testimony to their ability that they were so melodic and tight in their timing.
We were treated to a broad range of songs, including jazz interpretations of some well-known numbers. For me, the highlight of the night was their version of Moondance which outdid Van Morrison in my opinion. When you get a shiver of pleasure going down your spine, you know you are listening to some very good music - Moondance did it for me."
